Linux
From Berkshire Linux Users Group
Linux is a free operating system. 'Linux' technically refers to the kernel, but colloquially it refers to any of a number of distributions. Popular distro's are Fedora, Gentoo, Debian, and Mandrake. Most blug members use Fedora or Gentoo.
A distribution always includes the Linux kernel and some amount of related software that delivers a useful operating system. Most distro's include package management software. If you're interested in trying out Linux, you'll want to get a distribution and install that on your computer. For those who just want to play around a little and not make any commitments in real time or disk space, there is a Live-CD based distro called Knoppix that the blug would be happy to give you.
